History of The Station Singers
The Station Singers Choir was founded in 2011 by local Choral Director, Carol Gedye, with the intention of providing a Community Choir for the Richmond area. The newly restored Station building, with its cinema auditorium, proved to be an ideal venue for rehearsals and it soon became apparent that there was a need for more than one choir to meet demand. In line with the railway theme of the venue, Platform One, Platform Two and Branch Line choirs were formed, the latter meeting in the evening at The Town Hall.
The choir began performing two concerts a year in St Mary’s Church which proved to be very popular with the local community, and also raised thousands of pounds for local charities.
In 2013, a volunteer management committee was formed and the choir continues to operate as a non-profit organisation to this day.
In December 2025, Carol bid an emotional farewell to the choir, taking retirement after 14 years at the helm. In honour of her many achievements, Carol was made Honorary Life President of The Station Singers.
Following Carol's retirement, the baton was passed to Kay Bromhead who is now Musical Director and the choir continues to thrive.
